Sushi and Thrift Shopping- NYC Trip Part 2

So when I last left off, I was leaving Tiffany's and dashing off to meet my friend J for lunch, running late and dangerously low on battery life.

~Saturday Afternoon: Sushi, Cocktails, and Thrift Shopping~

I figured out which train and I needed to catch and which stop to get off at really quickly, so not being able to refer to my phone for that bit was easy. However once I got off at my station, it was a bit trickier as the neighborhood was almost 100% unfamiliar to me and I'd never been to this restaurant before. Also, I have no sense of direction (north, south, etc) so I really need a reactive GPS tracking-type map in order to orient myself. After a few experimental forays up and down the street I was on, I figured out where I was on my map and I set off!

Due to my low low low battery, I kept my phone firmly in my pocket. However, as I walked past this rather cute restaurant (or bar?) I couldn't resist a quick snap- both the exterior and the name simply demanded my attention. I wish I could've stopped to take a look inside, but I was at least 15 minutes late by this point and rather hot and tired, so I took a photo and kept going. Maybe next time I can look it up though!

J suggested we have lunch and catch up at Tomoe sushi restaurant on 172 Thompson Street. Not being familiar with sushi in NYC anymore (my favorite location, Sushi Mambo, sadly closed several years ago) I agreed, and I'm glad I did! I ordered a spicy tuna roll (my favorite) and an ikura roll (I love caviar). Both were delicious, and I'm sorry I didn't have the presence of mind to photograph them. The restaurant was actually tiny so J and I were sitting almost literally cheek-to-cheek with couples on either side of us, so the complete lack of privacy (along with my dying phone worries) somewhat stifled my inclination to document the tasty spread.

After sushi, we walked over to Rocco's Bakery, where I purchased a pound (yes really, a pound) of my very favorite cookies. Again, sadly no photos of my own but check out their website for lots of photos. It's a great purveyor of toothsome delicacies- cookies, cannoli, cakes, mousses, and all sorts of other goodies. You can order to go, or sit down and eat your treats in a civilized manner with some tea or coffee. My favorite cookies are these thumbprint jam butter cookies, piped in a swirled design with a thumbprint sized depression in the center containing a bit of raspberry or apricot jam. Rocco's has the best ones I've ever tasted.

Cookies sorted, J and I bid eachother adieu and I headed uptown back to my friend's apartment. At this point I had just 5% battery left, so I quickly sent her a text that I was on my way back and turn my phone off. When I got off the train I was lucky enough to figure out the direction I needed to walk in without much trial and error, so within after a few minutes walk I was back at Y's place with 1% left on my phone!

Whew! I left that poor hardworking device to charge while I sprawled a bit on Y's couch and caught my breath. We decided to nip out quickly to the corner market to get some drink supplies, after which we came back home; I made ravioli for our dinner and Y made the most delicious cocktails: vodka, passion fruit pulp, and club soda! Yum!

Tummies full and phones fully charged, we went out into the still-warm-but-no-longer-deadly-hot evening air and walked a few blocks to a nearby thrift shop. I love thrift shops; they're like a mysterious present, you never know what you'll find until you step inside and have a good rummage. This thrift shop had a lot of clothes, shoes, jewelry, glassware, teacups, and various interesting-looking knicknacks. Some art was set out front that I rather liked, but of course it would have been too large and cumbersome to even think about taking home so I settled for a photo instead. If anybody knows the name of this painting or the artist, please leave a comment and let me know! I'd love to get a poster of it!

Due to the heat and humidity of the day, once inside I immediately gravitated towards anything sleeveless. The weather forecast predicted rain for Sunday, but I was preparing myself for another scorcher. I ended up buying a white Champion workout tank, a sleeveless champagne colored silk Gap blouse, and a rather interesting cotton dress that ended up fitting me like a glove. Everything was in great condition, so despite the fact that none of it was properly vintage I was happy with my finds.

This is the workout top, which coordinates well with the athletic shoes I bought two weeks ago. I now have no excuses left!

The silk sleeveless blouse I really like too, although not paired with the pajama bottoms I have on in this quick snap! I've worn it with jeans so far and it's very comfortable and breezy!

And this is the dress, which I'm actually wearing today as well! Very comfortable to wear, perfect for a hot sticky day and cute to boot!

On our way back to the apartment, we passed by a cute flower shop with gorgeous (and very fragrant) flowers set outside, so we paused to admire them. I love freshly cut flowers and I hope I can make them more of a regular presence in my life. My favorites are yellow daffodils, pink carnations, and pink peonies. Fresh flowers last surprisingly long- I think my daffodils were perky for at least a week, maybe even a week and a half, and my carnation stayed fresh looking for at least a solid two weeks!

So that was my Saturday finished! It was a hot, humid day but I had a lot of fun and I definitely did a lot of walking!

As a little bonus, here is my makeup from today! I used my Too Faced Natural Eyes palette (all matte on the upper lid and shimmery on the bottom lashline), Becca concealer in the color Praline, Dior loose setting powder, Chanel Joues Contraste blush in the color Malice, L'Oreal Infallible gel liner in Blackest Black, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector pressed highlighter in Champagne Pop, and Charlotte Tillbury Lip Cheat lip liner in Pillow Talk. I'm also wearing false eyelashes instead of using mascara, which is kind of fun!
