Colors May Vary Due to Monitor Settings...

In my last post I briefly touched up what I consider to be "the right shade of pink"- not too blue, not too yellow, not too red, and not too deep. Alas, sometimes when shopping online I forget that colors do indeed vary depending on monitor color calibration, the lighting conditions in my room, and the lighting used to photograph the item! Not to mention monitor settings meant to shift between daytime and nighttime!
A few weeks ago I spied this adorable Ted Baker scarf on Zappos.com and it refused to leave my mind. It’s looked like such a pretty pink color and I loved the little bow designs woven into the fabric. They had only one pink scarf in stock and I put it in my cart but didn't purchase right away. $125 for a scarf is a bit steep, although Ted Baker is what I would consider a more premium brand so the price was hardly surprising. I also saw that the scarf was wool and silk, which are both wonderful materials for wrapping up and keeping warm in chilly weather. Summer may be just a few short months away but lately it's been terribly cold and I can't help but windowshop the items that would keep me warm! So at the end of last week I decided to bite the bullet and place my Zappos order. With free shipping and easy free returns, it's incredibly convenient and worry-free to purchase from their site.
Well, my pink Ted Baker scarf arrived... and it was definitely not the pink I imagined it would be. From the photo on the Zappos website I was expecting a lovely rose petal pink sort of color. Alas, when the scarf arrived it turned out to be a lot bolder and brighter, more of a barbie magenta pink than the pale delicate shade I was after. I tried it on but immediately took it off, not even bothering to take my picture because magenta really isn't my color. Also, I noticed the scarf was a little scratchier than I expected. No doubt this was due to the wool content, but I figured the silk content would have made it a little silkier to the touch. It seems like me and this scarf just weren't meant to be!
Thankfully making a return to Zappos is the simplest thing in the world, so I have no regrets about my order. Zappos also has a fabulous 365 day return policy. It's very convenient for purchases where you meant to wear it but somehow never did- as long as it's within and year and the item is unworn in its original condition with all it's original packaging, Zappos will take it back. Some years back I had purchased a pair of shoes that I loved, but then 8 months later they were still sitting unworn in their box, mocking me from the closet. I really appreciated the ability to send them back, and Zappos earned a customer for life. Their customer service has also been stellar on other occasions, such as when I was trying to find an out of stock item. I can't recommend them enough!
