Comparing Pretties from Tiffany & Co.

I don't have an enormous Tiffany collection but I do seem to have collected a variety of the metals they offer. Some pieces were anniversary or Christmas presents from my husband and some I purchased for myself. I thought it might be helpful to photograph them all together, so that the metals can be seen in relation to each other. In the past it seemed to be unfashionable to wear more than one metal color at a time, but the current jewelry trends are much more friendly towards mixing metals. I like this relaxed attitude and not having to worry about everything matching perfectly, although I do sometimes like to stick to one metal too. It's fun either way!

The jewelry pieces I'm comparing today are the Tiffany Bow Earrings in yellow gold, the Return to Tiffany Heart Key pendant  necklace in sterling silver with a tiny Rubedo key, and Paloma's Venezia Goldoni Heart earrings in rose gold (sadly no longer available). According to this jeweler's article I found while doing some research on metal content, the Tiffany metal Rubedo is an alloy that is apparently around 31% gold, 55% copper, and the rest silver with a little zinc. Tiffany uses American standard 925 silver and I believe their gold (yellow, rose, and white) is all 18k gold.

Comparing my yellow gold Bow Earrings and my rose gold Paloma Venezia Goldoni Earrings, the difference in color is rather subtle. Despite the slight difference between the two, I do much prefer the rose gold on my skin as opposed to the yellow gold. Before purchasing the Venezia earrings I had never owned any rose gold jewelry at all. All my life I've worn primarily silver, with the occasional gold piece. However I liked the delicate heart shape of these earrings so much that I took the chance with the new metal color. Boy oh boy did I like it! Rose gold has been extremely trendy these last couple years but I didn't give it much thought in regards to fine jewelry until I bought these earrings. I hope rose gold remains popular for a long time because I think it's a very flattering metal color for my skin tone and the one I prefer the most out of the traditional fine jewelry metals!

Another interesting one is to look at my silver Heart Tag necklace with the small Rubedo key and compare it to the rose gold Venezia heart earrings. The Rubedo is more pink than the rose gold, because it contains more copper. Rose gold also contains copper (that's what gives it its pinkish hue), but in a smaller quantity. Between Rubedo and Tiffany's rose gold, I must say I do prefer the Rubedo because it's rosier and looks even better on me than the 18k rose gold.

Lastly, this photo compares my 10k rose gold plain wedding band (purchased from this Ebay seller) to the Tiffany Rubedo metal. They look like a perfect match to me, or very nearly so. I honestly can't see a noticeable color difference between the two. This discovery makes me very happy because Tiffany Rubedo is a trademarked to Tiffany and can only be purchased through them. Tiffany is a premium jeweler so their baubles don't come cheap, especially if you're looking past their entry-level sterling silver pieces. It's nice to know that if I want to buy jewelry that will match my Tiffany Rubedo items, searching for 10k rose gold from other jewelers is an option!

I've heard it said that the way to find out which metal color looks best on you is to put on a pair of earrings or hang a necklace close to your face touching your skin and then observe which piece of jewelry makes your complexion look alive, healthy, and glowing. For me, the answer is rose gold; the more reddish the rose gold, the better it looks on me. I think 10k is probably my ideal rosiness, or of course the Tiffany Rubedo metal. :) I briefly wondered if I should downsize my silver and/or gold jewelry items (not just Tiffany but in general) so that I can invest in more rose gold items, but a lot of my jewelry has great sentimental value, such as the pieces gifted to me by my husband or the jewelry I inherited from my late grandmother.  Also I think it's quite nice to have a variety of metals to suit different moods, and don't forget that as your complexion changes color (due to tanning, or sunless winter months) so too can your perfect jewelry metal! I will continue to treasure what I already have, and going forward I can focus on making new memories in rose gold!
